We need idiots like Bill around to remind us that no, we really haven't left _that_ (fill in the blank horrendous moral vacuum from the past) behind us. It's always right there, around the corner, waiting for us to embrace it all over again.
Bill does us a service in that way. As long as people like him are around, the rest of us will never become that complacent again to think "never again" to a whole host of moral nightmares.
